Welcome to the Calculus Corridor!

The Calculus class at MSHS is AP Calculus and, when I teach it, Dual-Credit in conjunction with Wytheville Community College for 6 credit hours (MTH 271 & MTH 272). We use Stewart's book titled Calculus - Early Transcendentals 5E as our text.

Are you a prospective student trying to decide whether to take Calculus or Statistics at MSHS next school year? Then let "The 21st Century Bard" (a.k.a., Kim Headlee, my wife) help you in her terrific take-off on Hamlet's famous soliloquy, "To C or Not to C" (Word document; 29K). It is a little bit dated, due to changes in my teaching duties … specifically, I am not presently teaching Calculus at MSHS … but I'm sure you'll enjoy the spoof.

The following Student Notes and Objectives handouts are derived from the text and the state Standards of Learning (SOLs). These files are Microsoft Word files with imbeded Powerpoint graphics. I have noted the file size beside them for those still limited to using dial-up connections. Following the notes file is a link to the in-class lessons (Powerpoint slides) for that chapter. Many of the exercises include handouts obtained from an AP Calculus course taught by Pat Gabriel at Annandale High School of Fairfax County, Virginia.

The following chapters are not presently covered in my class: 1, 8, 10, 12 and 13.
